Alcohol and Breast Cancer

November 08, 2012

For many people, it's customary to have a couple glasses of wine each night, one with dinner and another with conversation.  For women, this could be a dangerous habit. Those drinks could raise a woman's risk of breast cancer. Researchers studied the drinking habits or more than 70,000 women. They found those women who had more than 3 drinks a day raised their risk of breast cancer by 30%. The study also found, just having one drink a day raised a women's risk of developing breast cancer by 10%. It did not matter what type of alcohol ... beer, wine or liquor. Earlier studies have suggested that red wine may help protect against heart disease. While that may be true, experts warn, this new study shows drinking any alcohol could raise your breast cancer risk.
