Osteoporosis in Men

April 11, 2013

Osteoporosis is a male health hazard that often goes unnoticed! A male over the age of 50 has a greater chance of a bone break because of osteoporosis than of being diagnosed with prostate cancer! Here's another sobering statistic: 1 in 5 men will suffer a hip fracture by the age of 90 and one third of them will die during the healing process! Unfortunately, osteoporosis continues to be viewed as a woman's disease! Men should know the warning signs. They include things like height loss, poor posture, and sudden back pain. Treatments for men are getting better with new medicines and testosterone replacement therapy. It's also important to know that men -- like women -- can help prevent the disease by not smoking, taking calcium supplements, and exercising!
