Pomegranates have experienced a surge in popularity, for good reason! When it comes to healthy benefits they are in a league of their own! Studies now confirm that the juice reduces LDL, bad cholesterol, and that is just for starters. Research has shown that drinking just 8 ounces of pomegranate juice per day reduced high blood pressure by 5% in test subjects. In fact, the juice mimicked the effects of some hypertension drugs. Like tea, pomegranate juice is packed with cancer fighting anti-oxidants called polyphenols. It's also low in calories, about 140 in an eight ounce glass! Look for pomegrante juice with no added sugars. If you're new to the flavor, pomegranate juice comes in a variety of blends. It is not cheap, but well worth the price. Don't forget the source ! Whole pomegranate fruit is also a delicious addition to a healthy diet strategy!
